Dental implants can also be used in situations where there are multiple adjacent teeth missing. In case of a few missing adjacent teeth, a number of implants may be used to support a bridge. Once your dental implants have been placed your dentist will allow the area to heal for a further 3 months. During this healing stage, your bone will fuse onto the dental implants and allow them to integrate. Once this healing process is complete your dentist will construct the bridge and attach it onto your implants.
Implants can also be used to help keep your dentures firm in your mouth (implant overdentures). This would be suitable if you have lost all of your teeth and are struggling with your dentures. You implant dentist would place a number of implants in your jaw (typically 2 in your lower or 4 in your upper jaw) and allow for 3 months for your implants to heal and integrate with your bone. Once the healing stages have elapsed, your dentist will then construct a new denture for you that will ‘clip’ onto your implants and in this way stay stable.
