The ageing process is something that affects us all and it’s often our faces that reveal the secret of our age.
Signs include loss of volume on the cheeks, hollows along the sides of the face and deep folds along the sides of the mouth.
Correcting these hallmarks of the ageing process is now possible without the painful procedures of surgery and it can be carried out at the Darlington Dental Clinic.
There are non-surgical solutions to correct these and to restore fullness to cheeks and lips.
Dermal fillers injected beneath the skin to plump up creases can be used alone or as part of procedures with Botox.
The effect is immediate and can last up to six months. Why not give us call and chat to us at a no obligation consultation about giving your face the glow you always wanted.
As the skin ages it loses its natural volume and elasticity and lines and wrinkles appear.
One of the reasons for this is the reduction in the amount of hyaluronic acid in our skin. It’s a substance which binds water and so keeps the skin hydrated and firm. Dermal fillers containing hyaluronic acid can be injected into the skin to rehydrate and restore its youthful volume. After a dermal filler injection the treated area will look fuller and any lines or wrinkles will be significantly diminished.
Are dermal fillers safe?
Dermal fillers are extremely safe. All of the fillers we use at the clinic have been extensively tested and have an outstanding safety record.
What happens during treatment?
Using a fine needle, dermal fillers are injected into the skin in areas where it needs to be plumped up and made to look fuller and firmer.
Each treatment with dermal filler takes approximately 30-45 minutes. Most people find that they can return to work immediately after treatment.
Many people don’t want silver fillings that show when they laugh or smile.
Our dentists will happily advise on other options which are both functional and aesthetically pleasing. The area being treated will first be numbed using a topical local anaesthetic cream but for treatment of the lips a local anaesthetic injection is usually given. All of the dermal fillers we use also contain local anaesthetic mixed in with the product to make the treatment as painless as possible. Many people experience no discomfort at all during the treatment, and if they do it is usually only mild.
Are products animal based?
Our Restylane dermal fillers are not derived from animals.
Botox treatment can take years off your face and is often used as a non-surgical remedy for treating wrinkles around the eyes, nose mouth and vertical lines on the forehead. The smallest of needles are used in the procedure and generally feels like having your eye brows plucked.
What is botulinum toxin?
Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacterium C. Botulinum that blocks the release of acetylcholine, the substance responsible for transmitting the electric impulses that elicit muscle contraction. In medicine, botulinum toxin is injected directly into heyperactive muscles. It has been safely and effectively used for the treatment of strabismus (cross-eye) and blepharospasms (eyelid spasm) for more than 30 years.
How does botulinum toxin work?
Hyperactivity of the muscles of facial expression often result in the development of deep frown lines, forehead lines and/or crow’s feet. Injecting botulinum toxin into the affected areas temporarily inactivates the underlying muscles responsible for wrinkling, giving the face a more relaxed and pleasant appearance. The wrinkles become smoother and can disappear altogether.
When and how long does it work?
The initial effect of the treatment will become visible within 48-72 hours. The maximum effect is reached in about one to two weeks. Overall results are a natural look and the effect is normally good for three to six months after which re-treatment is required.
